We banged on this software pretty hard over the past few days and came to a
few conclusions:
It can be made to work, and using a Ham 2 meter radio helps because of the
data output ports; the computer was pretty busy digitizing the audio from
the radio - the CPU was running at about 33% just on this program; the
possibility of charting on BSB charts just wasnīt there. Soooo, back to
looking at the turnkey solutions, which will be somewhere down the priority
list as there isnīt much shipping traffic down here.
We did find that several navigation programs are now supporting AIS
plotting on (digital) serial cable input from dedicated receivers.
