Way I see it - and I'm ignorant regarding electrical theory beyond some
trade school stuff in the early 80s - doesn't bonding just create a gigantic
battery when you throw in salt water? Hence, this isn't as big a deal in
fresh water? Also consider, and it may sound silly, but moving through the
water does create some static buildup in things like the prop shaft, prop,
thru hulls, doesn't it?

Like Richard said...religion.

Ok, we have this beautiful new aluminum fuel tank and it's sitting in
its bilge compartment touching only fiberglass and its wooden supports.
It's connected to the rest of the boat only with thick rubber hoses. So
why am I attaching a green wire to it which will connect it to the bus
bar that's connected to everything else and will make the tank part of
an electrical circuit subject to corrosion and dependent on zincs for
protection?

The same question could be asked about through-hulls.

Is there a real reason for this or is it just "the way it's always been
done"?
