I had my rudder off the baba 30 when I bought it and it was a fairly
painless operation, although I did have the yard do it.

As I remember it the rudder is attached with U shaped brackets that are
recessed into the rudder, just scrape of the paint top and bottom and
perhaps some filler that might be there and that should reveal pins holding
the rudder on.

The pins were drilled out then the rudder just pulls off leaving the
brackets attached to the hull. There is no need to raise the boat to do
this.

Unfortunately the rudder was removed and replaced while I was away.

I have drawn a very crude sketch of how I remember the rudder brackets to be
on a picture of my rudder. I'm sure others will know more

I know I get water entering the bracket by the Pintel and it runs down
inside the filling/paint and exits through the paint leaving a rust mark
which you can see on the pic. I plan to tackle this properly on the next
haulout

Perhaps someone could make a schematic drawing of the rudder design and
installation on the Baba? I don't quite understand how the shoe is held in
place, how the hinge pintles and gudgeons are positioned, the length of the
shaft and how much clearance is needed below the level of the shoe.

Since Tom Beard also is familiar with the Tayana 37, Tayana 52, as well as
the Baba 30, and Panda 40, perhaps he would be willing to take on the task?
(I love asking others to do jobs!)
