Good question, Alan. I keep looking for a surface mount woofer in its
own low profile box but non exists, as far as I know. I would hate to
cut into a teak bulkhead to mount one.
Last year I bought a pair of Bose outdoor speakers for the interior of
the boat and returned them. They lacked bass of any kind. I'm not into
heavy bass when I listen to music but there is some bass in the
classical stuff I like and the Bose just couldn't cut it for classical
music - forget jazz or rock. The Bose mid range and highs were crisp and
clear.
Alpine is what I had in mind for the next radio. Try Crutchfield for
prices and selection. They have been great to do business with.
