Hello,
I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Dave Amundson and I currently have money down on a 1984 Baba 35’. We will be conducting a survey this coming Monday with sea-trials that same day. If all goes will we should close sometime during the week.
The boat seems to be in exceptionally clean condition; however I would like any advice that could be passed my way. I have been reading the Baba Owners website and have gotten a few tips on things to check such as chain-plates but I still have a few questions. The mast on this sailboat seems to be in two parts, a top and a bottom section. About ½ way up the mast there is a seam / joint. There are 4 rows of screws above and blow this seam. It appears that the mast has two sections, top and bottom, is this normal, or could this be a repair of some kind? I have never seen a mast that wasn’t one continues piece. I have photos but don’t know how to share them to the list. Also is there anything I should know about the teak decks on this Baba? They seem to be in good condition with no cracked boards or missing cocking. However I did fine one cap that was missing.
I realize that my surveyor should know all these things but I would like advice from the experts themselves, you the owners of other Baba’s.
Thanks in advance for your advice
