That is a good point - maybe a check valve should be inserted.

I would have to get on my boat - so this spring (which seems to have
started today in NYC - it is 59 degeees and the trees are budding) I
will check it out.

The attached photo shows the drain just below the waterline (the
bootstripe was raised a bit at one time - so this was probably at the
water line.

Also, notice here the bobstay was raised since we could not gain
access to the bobstay backing plate buried in gunk in the anchor
locker. This also gets the bobstay out of the water.

I guess one has to figure out what kind of heel could lead the chain
locker to fill up enough so it starts overflowing into the boat. I
do not know. Guess we need a computer model.
