Just a word on the Grand Deer 1 ¼” seacocks; I have replaced one with a
graco 1 ¼” and the other that was stuck I disassembled the valve which has
what they call a floating ball that is only held in by the seals assembly
and a slot at the top for the stem. If you turn the ball where the slot
lines up with the flow (run) of the valve and tap it the ball should fall
out. This way it is easy to polish up and clean the body. I used a little
silicon valve sealant lubricant on the ball and lightly on the inner body
and seals. Slipped the ball in where the good side would seal against the
sea. I screwed the body back together and worked the valve handle a few
times; very easy to move. If you get a good back up wrench to hold the hull
flange nut below the valve nest to the interior hull, the valve will break
off where you can clean it without removing through hulls. Oh, if you’re
through hull is under water you might want to have a stopple handy to plug
the hole until you have it cleaned up. The ones I did were on the water line
opposite the battery bank and the wind was blowing in the correct direction.
It also helps if you have a friend in a dingy to hold back up on the through
hulls in needed. We used the handle of a small adjustable wrench to insert
in the through hull and another to grip the exposed handle to hold it. Or
you can buy an expensive through hull wrench and rent it to other boat
owners..
