The a low current, high output light source is certainly a Good Thing.
However, based on what I've seen to date, we're not there yet. Over the
past couple of seasons, LED anchor lights have begun to appear in
anchorages and I thinkit's worth noting that they're easy to spot; the
light runs distinctly to the blue end of the spectrum and they are, in
comparison to incandescent lights, fainter. Considering one of the main
objectives of setting an anchor light is to mark a vessel's location so
that other vessels won't collide with the anchored vessel, a faint light
isn't the most desirable thing around...

LED's, in general, are point source emitters while running lights and so
on, by definition, require their light to be spread over an arc or full
circle. The current solution is to build an array of LED's aimed so
that, one hopes, they will cover the desired arc fully. While there's
good reason to think this will be successfully done in the future, I
don't think it's really happened. Yet.
