Thanks Michael, I am in South Louisiana and the water temp is still between
70 and 60 degrees F. So that will not be bad. I had everything disconnected
when the through hull was out the water and saw no shell fish. Two Groco BV
1250 are on the way. I am going to disassemble and inspect the seacocks I
change. Anything salvageable will be kept for spares.

Ah, Grand Deer! Well, live and learn. I had never encountered these before,
but I will have to take the path of Okham's Razor and assume they were
original equipment. And yes, it was the cheater pipe or long wrench that I
was thinking of which should never be used. If you could break one of these
by hand, then it sounds like you found a problem just in time.

Resistance to closing could also be caused by tiny shellfish settling in the
valve and growing up to fit the space available. Here the first course of
investigation is to put on a mask and dive on the thru-hull with a screw
driver to check the opening and the valve from the outside. I don't know
where you are but in winter there it is probably not a realistic option.

Continuing here totally on speculation, if you can find a modern replacement
in the US you will probably be better off. If you are still looking for
original type stuff, Tayanas used Grand Deer fittings and their yard is
still "in business". You might contact the Tayana Owners Group and see what
they do now for parts.
