With very few exceptions, this is where most Baba 30 owners locate the
stack. I have a Sig diesel furnace and have the fresh air intake located
in the head. I too was concerned about locating the stack so close to
things.. I have a canvas cover for the butterfly hatch. However, I have
found there to be no problem. I have had the heater funning on high for
hours and the canvas was not overly warm.
 
I have a T-shaped stack rising about a foot or so off the deck. I don't
have a boom vang but if I did, there could be some interference it using
it under sail.
 
My stack is removable and I have a stainless cap the fits over the
opening when I am not using it.
 
I have not seen any exhaust damage to my sails so far.
 
I bought my heater at Fisheries Supply. Duane was very helpful with info
about setting it up.

After lots of internet research, I recently purchased a Dickinson
Newport Propane Heater for our 1979 Baba 30. I was planning on
installing it on the bulkhead on the port side of the stowed salon
table. The exhaust pipe would come out just forward of the butterfly
hatch. Is this a common place to install a heater on a Baba 30? Will
the hot exhaust damage the sails? Anything we should look out for?
