Thanks Steve and thanks to all the suggestions everyone had.
I bought a re-build kit for the pump today and will see if I can salvage
it.
I think the idea of a strainer in front of the pump is an excellent one
and I will add that during the rebuild.
Thanks again!

I agree with the recommendations to keep the pump rather than replace
with one of those "plastic" models. My only added recommendation is be
sure to have a Jabsco strainer in front of the pump. As you mentioned
the smallest debris will foul the pump. I use the 36600 series with a
3/4" strainer and have been very satisfied with the ability to quickly
pump the bilge dry.

Subject: [Baba-L] Bilge Pump Recommendations
Hi all,
During a routine flushing of the bilge today, I noticed my bilge
pump is leaking badly. I currently have a Jabsco 36600-0000 pump which
I priced at West Marine today at about $270 with my Port Supply
discount. This pump seems to have lots of moving parts, little places
where gunk from the bilge can plug it up and a rubber belt.
My question to everyone is:
Should I fork over another $270 and buy another plus a repair
kit to re-build my old one so that I have a spare? I plan to go
cruising in 2008.
Or ...... buy a $60 Rule plastic jobbie and, well, actually I
can buy several and still be under my $270 and just replace them when
they go bad?
Or .... Is there something better someone can recommend.
I have just purchased a new electronic sensor / switch (Water
Witch) which I am planning to install at the same time I replace the
pump.
Any help would be most appreciated!
