I was using a Icom 718 Ham radio "adjusted" to receive marine SSB
frequencies and a Pactor IIe modem with a lot of success. Much more user
friendly and cheaper than the marine SSB's by Icom. I would get the Ham
license (easier now) rather than pay Sailmail $125 per year if I was going
out long term again. Winlink is free for non-business emails but only
available if you have a Ham license. All this is over 2 years old now so it
may be outdated info. I sold my set up to "Steve" who had or has a Baba 30
in the Keys and was getting ready to "leave" a couple years ago. Steve, you
still out there???
