Thanks for the compliments Rick and the great plug Alan. Updating a blog
while miles offshore is great fun and I think our friends and family enjoy
seeing our progress. I update the blog and YOTREPS while downloading the
GRIB wind vectors, something I found really useful for weather routing.

Going astern with the Hydrovane. Well I wish I could be analytical about it,
but every time I have tried it the baba rudder seems to have no effect
whatsoever, so which ever way the bow is turning when going ahead, continues
when astern, I end up doing banana shaped manoeuvres back and forth. Now I
have resorted to mooring into a berth bow first, removing the Hydrovane
rudder and reversing out and turning the boat around and refitting the
rudder. I have the Hydrovane rudder locked amidships all the time when not
in use.
Also I should say, much as I love the Hydrovane, I wouldn't be without my
Simrad wheel pilot (WP30), When the wind is too light or if there is a
sudden wind change, I just hit the standby button and it takes over while I
adjust sail trim, if this requires reefing or headsail changes then it can
be on for some time and there's no point expecting the Hydrovane to cope
with the boat when it's out of balance.
