Thanks to all for the advice! Today was more wind than we were
comfortable with so we went to the fuel dock. We have clocked 17
hours and and topped up with 3 gallons. So it looks like our use
pattern was conservatively 5 hours/ gallon. It may be that we were
taking it too easy with the Yanmar and that there was too much idling
going on. I am told our sooty exhaust is because of carbon build up
from not running the engine hard enough. I guess we should be at 85%
maximum for at least 15 min every time we start the engine.

I also promised a follow up on our port light project (replacing the
gasket material). As advertised on the web site the Fawcett gasket
material is perfect and the suggestion that some caulking material be
used to hold the gasket material in place was a very good one. I
have completed 5 of the port lights so far using a silicon caulk and
it works a treat! Also as advertised the biggest problem is the
yucky mess the old material makes when preping the port light. It
takes me about 1 hour/window. I have 5 more to go.
