Hi Jim,
I have just stopped a leak from my rudder tube (baba 30), I posted pictures
of the job on my website, have a look at
http://www.lady-stardust.co.uk/rudder.htm but it was a simple job in the
end.
I also replaced the cutlass bearing last year, this proved to be a mammoth
job as I couldn't remove the prop shaft from the coupling, I ended up sawing
through the shaft. On my baba their were 2 grub screws holding the cutlass
bearing in place, these where glassed over, In theory when they are removed
you should be able to pull out the bearing, Mine wouldn't budge and I spent
a day cutting it up into strips and peeling them out, I took some pictures
at the time http://www.lady-stardust.co.uk/cutless_bearing.htm however I
think you will find plenty of discussion on this subject in the archives.
Finally I have just fitted a huge piece of copper under the hull as an ssb
earth a few weeks ago, I have had no time to test it out yet, but if you
hear G4DLY/MM give me a shout and I will tell you more
Best regards,

Subject: [Baba-L] cutlass bearing and other
Greetings Ya'll- I am preparing for the dreaded
haulout. Any caveats on replacing the cutlass bearing
on the 35? Does it require removal of the stern tube?
How is it attached? I also have a small drip at the
rudder post. Has anyone tackled this? I assume I
could stop the rudder post leak in the water, but
thought I would wait until haulout. Also, I will be
installing a SSB/Ham radio later. Any opinions on the
grouding plane of the 35? Is the traditional internal
grounding area enough(tanks,engine,copper foil...), or
is an external Dynaplate in order to get enough
bounce?
Fair winds,
Jim
