My Panda steering wheel hub cap is round but has a knurled edge. I've
successfully taken off the wheel twice using channel-lock pliers on the
widest jaw on one occasion, and a really big vise-grip on another -- both
times protecting the edge with an old towel. As reported, there's a nut
inside that responds to the ministrations of a socket set.

The hubcap is smooth with no surface to torque against. My thought is
possibly using a strap wrench? Then there is the interior corrosion I will
have to force against-all without damaging the fine smooth surface of an
irreplaceable hub.

I hope for at least two more opinions before tackling this job.

If it's like mine, the "hub cap" screws off to reveal the wheel/steering
shaft and securing nut. The nut holding the wheel on my boat takes an
1-1/16" socket if I remember correctly. Also the cap comes off
counter-clockwise.
