The comments about replacing chainplates struck home. I have a Tayana 37
and have had to replace all the chainplates. In the instance of the Tayana
37, there were two contributing factors: the quality of the steel and also
the design of attachment points. I had the impression that the TaShing yard
might have avoided some of the problems, but based on the comments on this
bulletin board, it seems that there are notable problems common to the
Baba/Panda/Tashiba and the Tayanas. Has anyone posted a descriptive file
outlining the procedure for replacing the chainplates on the Baba? Can you
remove the bolts for inspection? On the Tayana 37, they buried the bolts in
a gusset of poor plywood covered by fiberglass. It was poorly sealed and
water then leaks into the plywood interior causing the wood to rot, and
the bolts to corrode. I would be curious as to how the chainplates are
installed on the Babas, and how it was dealt with.
