I vote with Cherie - the Society Islands are wonderful - or at least they
were twenty years ago when we sailed there. November is late spring there,
the gardinias will be in bloom, and the whole island chain gets fewer
visitors in a year (about 50,000) than Hawaii gets in a day. Unbelievable
water clarity, pleasantly warm, no need for wetsuits or lycra suits. GREAT
food, reasonably priced from the truck-cafes down by the waterfronts at
night, or fresh from the municipal markets during the day. Bowls of
dark-roast coffee and baguettes in the morning. And a really good jitney bus
system for getting around away from anchorages. There's a good reason you
can't get more than a six month visa to visit - otherwise, nobody would
leave. But then, we have never been to the Caribbean or Bahamas...
