We just changed e-mail to Google and had sent a message about this but it
appears to have gone to the bit bucket instead, so here goes again:

We have found that the bow of our Panda 40 falls off faster than any
correction by prop walk or rudder. It essentially lines up like a windvane
and we are "in irons" making sternway. This is even with a reversing prop.
Knowing this we can sometimes manipulate it to get in and out of tight
spaces.
For very tight spaces we spring out. Send a continuous line around the
piling or last cleat on your finger, one end to your aft on-board cleat, th=
e
other end to a cockpit winch. Play out the line until the bow clears the
slip, then tighten down on the winch end, perhaps even draw it in some if
space is really tight. When done, cast off the winch end and pull mas rapid=
o
on the fixed side to get the free end of the line out of the water. We
usually go into neutal on engine for this, but it only takes a couple of
seconds.
