I replied on the WH autopilot post before reading Richard's post. I agree
somewhat with Richard. If I had to do it over again, I would certainly go
with a hydraulic drive system and I might choose a different electronic
user interface system, only because I like cool and modern electronic toys.
That being said , the WH electronics areVERY reliable. Steve Dashew has
installed modified WH pilots on ALL of his boats in the last 10-15 years,
even his new "unsailboat", and that guy gets around the world. Also, many
fisherman in the Pacific Northwest use the WH product every day for years
and years...
The hard part of the WH install was the hydraulic/mechanical system, not the
electronics.
