I use this type setup with great success. I have the snubber permanently
shackled to the bobstay fitting and the line just runs up to the deck and is
secured. When we anchor and get set I attach the free end of the snubber to
the anchor chain and let out more chain till the snubber is taking the pull.
This also has the effect of greatly aiding the rode ratio by a good three
feet or so. I'd be hesitant to use this in a bad blow, but on 'normal'
nights it works great.

When I replaced my bobstay fitting at the waterline last year, I had
a big shackle installed at the bobstay fitting - and reinforced the
backing plate to the bobstay fitting etc.

I was told that this shackle would be useful in ameliorating this problem.

But, I have never used it.

Does anyone have suggestions as to the best way to utilize this
set-up. I was thinking of a snatch block and the running a snubber
to the chain.
