gallows & sink drain

Bill- You articulated my plan exactly for fitting the
boom gallows/dodger/bimini. I had not thought boom
clearance while reefed though, thanks for the tip. As
for the sink drain, we are undecided as to:
1. remove the check valve
2. remove check valve and add a pump w/foot switch
3. just live with it as is
We will most likely go 3 for now, and do 2 later.
We have done an enormous amount of work on the old
girl this last year, but still have lots to do. So
far we have:
installed new 40 hp Yanmar
new prop shaft(installed in the water)
new bilge pumps(a small workhorse to keep the bilge
dry, and a big pump I hope never goes on!)
new Lavac head/hoses
new bowsprit
new anchor platform
new cap rail/scroll board/half round/and lots of other
teak on the port side
replaced some deck boards
new bow pulpit
new nav lights
new/repaired stanchions and gates
new rigging
new chain plates
new roller furlers
lots of wiring
new a/c
new water pump & hoses
new genoa track
removed water heater
removed ancient SSB & tuner
the list goes on and on...
I have done all the work myself, except for having
help with the bowsprit fabrication. I have spent
about $2k on the teak alone. It is getting harder and
harder to find quality burmese/thai teak nowadays,
especially in 8/4 or thicker. So far I haven't had to
use any plantation teak, but the day is coming where
that will be all that is available. Drain your IRA
and put it in teak, it is a sure bet to keep going up
in value(I have a friend that has already done this!).
Time to get back to work. My list of things yet to
do is still as long. By the way, we are leaving for
the western Carribean after hurricane season this
year. Anybody else heading that way?
Jim
