MessageHi Laura. If the stain has blackened the teak, you will probably =
have to live with it. I have no experience with the lemon juice and =
bleach can't cure rot. I prefer Semi-gloss. To keep the dust down, I lay =
a small shop-vac hose on the floor near my work area and turn it on. =
Some detail sanders have vacuum attachments, but I find them to be =
cumbersome.

  Hi Laura. When I sand my cabin sole I begin by taping to parameter =
rises adjacent to the floor, using the blue 3M 2" tape, to prevent =
damaging the teak surface close to the work area. I then begin by =
sanding with an 80 grit paper to remove old varnish and grime. Next, I =
go to a 150 grit. After that I vacuum the entire work area and wipe the =
entire parameter down with a damp rag. Next, wipe the sanded area down =
with Acetone and allow to dry. The final step before application of =
varnish is to wipe the sanded area with a tack cloth. I then apply the =
varnish. I have had outstanding luck with Varathane. It is very =
resistant to abrasion and is a one part, low cost, easy to apply =
varnish. My cabin sole gets heavy traffic and tends to last about 3 =
years. It takes a full week-end to do the job on a Baba 30.

  HINTS. 1. Never sand across the grain. 2. Pull the varnish from one =
end to the other, in a straight line. 3) Hi Gloss makes it difficult to =
see spilled fluids on the floor, Semi-Gloss looks great but allows =
better visualization of spill for quicker cleanup and less damage. 4. =
Either hand sand or use a finish sander. Orbital sanders tend to make =
swirls in the wood which WILL show up. 5. 220 grit sanding does not =
allow the varnish to penetrate as well as 150 and the durability of the =
varnish is reduced. 6. Allow 72 hours after final coat before exposing =
the cabin sole to traffic.
