Folks,

In my mind, the authority on this question is our very own John McGrady. In
the early 80s, he sailed from Seattle to Bora Bora. In fact, it's John's
fault that I'm in this mess (thanks John!). Read all about it in his great
book http://sailingthedream.com. I'm not trying to sell the book. In fact,
you should be able to find the book in the library.

FYI, the accepted formula for hull speed is 1.37 x sq. rt. Of LWL. So, that
would be 1.37 x sq. rt. Of 25.5' (I think that's the LWL). So, in theory,
hull speed is 7 kts. We've seen 8 on our knot meter which probably means we
need to calibrate it.
