I just purchased a new main, yankee and staysail from Lee sails, included=
 a
suncover for the roller furl Yankee and a main sail cover, with shipping
$4405. They are the same as the original sail produced by Lee in 1984 a=
nd
have served me well.
How long your sails should last depends on how much sun they get, if
you keep them covered when your not sailing you should get 20-25,000 mile=
s
out of them (cruising) not racing. adding full battens to your main can
make a pretty sorry main good for another few years

"Can anyone recommend a company for sail
cleaning-refurbishing ? My main is from 1987 but we
sail Lake Michigan so we put up for 6 months. At what
point should I send the sails to Davy Jones and get
new ones?

Take them to a sail loft which has a large floor and
have them spread the sails out (here they drive small
wooden-handled pawls thru the cringles into the wooden
floor) and examine them for seams, cloth wear, and
most importantly, shape. They can then give you advise
as to what to do with them - clean and repair for $X
vs. new for $Y (Y usually being larger than X). For
information's sake check the lofts in Singapore for
the cost of new...
