Be careful of halogen bulbs, they burn hotter are not tolerant of over
voltage that many of experience with AGM batteries that chare at 14.5 VDC.
Xenon is a better choice, brighter, cooler, and more tolerant of the higher
voltage condition.

Running lights for sailboats will eventually all be LED to conserve on
energy.

You can get inserts that convert bulb bases including
Aqua Signal bulb bases to use two-pin halogen bulbs.
The halogen bulbs you can get in the Home Depot
gardening section (more expensive in the light bulb
section) in various wattages for $2 to $3. The inserts
were available thru West Marine (or Port Supply) and
are the offset baynet type. The Aqua Signal
replacement bulb itself is a LOT more...
