You asked some questions that I finally know something about, being a former
general contractor.
ABS (black) and PVC (white) are quite different products. My plumber prefers
ABS, because he doesn't have to prime it before gluing. Putting the two
together requires an all-purpose glue. Remember to prime the PVC with their
primer (usually purple).
I'm tempted to try this with my waste lines -- use PVC and a heat blanket
(like the ones that electricians use to bend plastic conduit), so that you
can create you own bends and follow the contour of your boat. Then use some
flexible hose at the connecting points for flexing. You can't bend ABS (to
my knowledge). Ideal, Greenlee and Gardner Bender are a few who make these
blankets.
