Peggie,

Alan is making an important point in saying that the Baba 30 is not like
other boats. Consider all of the functionality of a Tayana 37 in a 30'
boat and you'll have the design parameters for the Baba 30. Mr. Perry
designed it to some very tight tolerances. The bigger boats (35-40) have
more options, but the 30 doesn't give much leeway for customization. As
Alan said, the two options for a holding tank are the stock location
(under the starboard settee) or under the v-berth. Unlike a lot of
boats, the v-berth storage is some of the most useful real estate on the
boat - it's not just where you stuff unused sails. Also, moving the
holding tank to the v-berth would require a good deal of reconstruction
of the head compartment and addition to the obvious plumbing issues. So
this modification is not something to be taken lightly.

Alan has done an impressive job of measuring and mocking up his new
tank. (Alan, you should put those images on the ftp site!) His design
for a new tank looks very much like the stock tank that we have so I
assume that the tank was changed sometime during the production run of
the boat. (Mandisa is a 1984 boat.)

Some might complain that the Baba 30 tries to do too much in too small
of a space, but it does everything very well. Optimization is the key.
