The PO was Bill Parlatore who subsequently founded PassageMaker
magazine, the trawler magazine. The Baba 30, then named Bivacco, was
never raced - Bill planned to sail it in the Annapolis-Bermuda race -
instead, he "crewed" for me on the race, which meant that anything
not working worked by the time we got to Bermuda.

Bivacco was next to mine on F dock in Port Annapois. Bill was and is
a great innovator and tinkerer (see the saga of his custom trawlers
Growler and Growler 2 covered over the years in PassageMaker). He
removed the pedestal steering and replaced the steering with a tiller
(the tiller came from a Catalina 27). That left room under the
cockpit. So, he decided he could use the storage under the cabin
berths, so moved the water tanks to bladders under the cockpit. This
also helped balance out the weight in the bow where he had custom
anchor rollers built. Bill also moved the batteries under the sink,
so as to make room in the port cockpit locker.

One of Bill's dreams was to take Bivacco to cruise the canals of
Europe. So, he had a special bracket built to hold the mast. Since
then, of course, Bill has cruised everywhere (but not in the Baba) -
which you will know if you read his magazine. Bill is now on the ABYC.
