I have a Fein Multimaster without the variable speed option and have been
very satisfied with it. I use it primarily for sanding (wood and metal) and
clean straight cuts in wood (especially good for "plunge" cuts in tight to
reach places). I don't believe the slower speeds are needed for many of the
operations that I'll likely perform such as fine sanding or polishing. I
recall that, if you really want the variable speed option, you can add the
speed control part (the non-variable speed model has a plug in the side if
the case where this would go) later. Hope this helps.
