Hi Rich,
The one problem I see with fuel bladders are the baffles, which consist of a
foam insert. These foam inserts only last a few years (3 to 7) and then
must be replaced -- which sounds messy and perhaps expensive. A fellow Baba
40 owner in the Seattle area has chosen the fuel bladder method and I must
admit I was tempted. I suppose a way around the baffle issue is to split
the bladders into smaller sizes, but then you have the loss of capacity. I
think perhaps, to be extra safe with a fiberglass tank, one could put a
double bulkhead aft to contain a tank failure.
Yes, I do have plans of a small sump area foreward of the tank, which will
be transfer-pumped to the main bilge sump under the engine.
