I just started re-bedding my stanchions and was surprised to find a pad
under the stanchion base. I hadn't noticed this before, possibly because
they are so thin, and in my case mostly rotted away. I am replacing them
with thin mahogany pads. My baba 30 is an early model, perhaps 1979 and I
wondered if anyone else has these pads? After much thinking, I have decided
to cut small rectangular access holes (2"*1") inside to get at the stanchion
horizontal strut screws under the cap rail, and then work out a way of
making the hole look pretty and allowing future access. I only mention it in
case somebody has come up with a better way of getting to these nuts.
