Hi Debra, I installed a Lewmar (used to be Simpson-Laurence) 900GD on our Baba 30. It fit on the flare of the bowsprit base, just forward of the samson post. The chain fall was just right to fit the existing slot in the wood and down thru the hauser. I through-bolted the windlass using long (10 in., I think) bolts with large fender washers as backing plates. I wired it with the solenoid and deck switches up under the foredeck, and ran oversized (0-0) cable to the house batteries and breaker. It has worked flawlessly for 5 years now. The only thing I don't like is the manual recovery system. It's a ratchet handle that fits over the gypsy bolt like a socket wrench. It is slow, and when I really put some muscle into it (just field testing it), the pawls inside broke. It was still under warrantee, so they replaced it, but I don't really trust it. On the plus side, the new model 900GD comes in all stainless steel (rather than enameled steel). It is cost effective at about $900.
  Even with it's drawbacks I would do it again, primarily because it fit without a lot of remodeling the mounting space. Specifics would really help - a photo would be wonderful. We need to know how the anchor chain comes into the windlass and where it dumps down into the hawse, all of that stuff. Thanks much for any help you can give!
