Hi Bob,

This spring we cleaned out our tanks for the first time. The port tank
on a Baba 30 is kind of challenging because it's under the sliding
settee seat. We didn't seem to have much of an algae problem, but there
was a lot of scale and dirt in the tanks. We drained them and scrubbed
them out with vinegar.

At the risk of offending some, I'm going to recommend Peggie Hall again.
She wrote an article on water tank recommissioning that we've found
helpful. Yes, there's some bleach involved, but it doesn't stay in the

Right now, our biggest problem is the plumbing. We think that most of
the "tank taste" we get is coming from the hoses. They're all old
(probably original), most are yellow, and some are almost opaque.
Replacing them will probably be a project for this winter. I've seen a
new tubing used for boat pressure water systems in a couple of
magazines. It comes in red or blue, it's about half and inch in
diameter, and it's made of a harder material than the vinyl hoses. Does
anyone know anything about this stuff? It seems like it would be much
easier to snake through the tight places than the vinyl hose.
