With the Groco, Type K head you can not have a vented loop on the intake
water side as it will never draw the salt water over the vent. A vacuum is
needed to pull the intake water and with the vented loop this vacuum is
eliminated as it should be. I ran the intake hose looped higher than the
waterline and down to a filter and than to the head. The waste side does use
a vented loop because the waste is being pushed by the pumping action of the
head and there is no vacuum needed or wanted here.

I agree, replace everything if you are getting into this project. I also
used a lot of PVC from Home Depot to run plumbing and connected it to
sanitation hose at each end using some neat PVC fittings made by Northeast
