Rick is right and with a good description. I feel positive you won?t have to
repack the gland, only tighten the nuts. But if you do repack and haven?t
done it before, because of the packing size issue, cleaning out the old
packing and the delicate lining up of ends, etc., I would suggest practice
first with no water rushing past. I have repacked glands on prop shafts four
feet below the waterline, as Rick described, hanging upside down with water
flooding in. It is a fun sort of challenge.
