RE: Engine overheating.

Two things found on Amadon Light that cause overheating:
Mineral deposits slowly build up in the exhaust elbow where the
cooling water is fed into the exhaust gas. Over time the slots in the
double walled elbow close down reducing water flow. This causes back
pressure on the system, which can cause leaks in pump seals, as well
as overheating.

Another easy thing to check is the cam in the raw water pump. It is
the part that squeezes the soft impeller and forces the water through
the pump housing. It does wear and the wear can be imperceptible, but
cooling water flow will be reduced over time and the engine
temperature will increase. A new one is usually included in a pump
rebuild kit. Sometimes, there are two thicknesses of cam in the kit
and you need to know which one to use. It is normally held in the
bronze pump housing by a screw from the outside.
