I have had great luck with a "double snubber" I don't remember where I got=
it, but it is a square s/s plate about 3/8" thick with a slot for the
anchor chain and two holes in each corner that takes a shackle. To each
shackle I have attached a 25' length of 5/16" anchor line. After setting
the anchor, I hook the plate on the chain, lead one and then the other line=
through the port and stbd hawse pipes and then let out chain slowly until=
the snubber is about a foot below the water with equal tension on both
sides. I keep a slack section of chain between the snubber and the
windlass, so there is no load at all on the windlass. Sometimes, depending=
on the wind I will move it a little to either port or stbd to minimize the=
riding. This seems to work very well.
If anyone is interested, I could take a photo.
