We were at our marina this weekend and a person came by, admiring our boat.
Turns out he is also a M44 owner from another part of Long Island. He
mentioned that he was in Dana Point in the past year and learned that PAE
had disposed of the Mason hull molds. I sent an e-mail to Dan Streech at PAE
and below is his reply.

Dear Bob,

Thanks for your e-mail and your kind comments. I am sorry to tell you that
yes, the Mason molds have been destroyed. We stored them for 7 years (at
$25,000 per year), but finally had to give in to the inevitable that the
Masons could never be built again in quantities that would make them viable.
The molds were old and had deteriorated, Nordhavns filled the limited
factory space and the price of a new Mason would have been double the last
selling price 7 years earlier. It is a rather poignant story and was akin to
taking your beloved old dog to the vet to have it put to sleep. The Masons
"made" us and I still have a very soft spot in my heart for those wonderful
boats. I sailed to Hawaii twice on Masons (M43 #8 in 1981 and M54 #6 in
1989) and both passages were among the best of my life.
 
Enjoy your boat. The M44 is a wonderful beautiful boat built to last a
lifetime- and now it literally can't be duplicated. Here is a link to our
