Paul,
You certainly will have earned some peaceful cruising after this job.
Congratulations on completing the worst part.

When installing the replacement cutlass bearing, consider leaving one-
half inch extending out of the housing. You will then be able to get
a pipe wrench on it when the next replacement time comes. And, it is
then even possible to get it out and put the new one in without
removing the shaft.

After a number of replacements I ended up with stripped set screw
holes which are just drilled and tapped into the fiberglass. You can
put new ones anywhere around the exterior housing - - provided you
make a note of where they are as they will disappear beneath layers
of bottom paint. Also, do you have a good "never-seize" to coat all
the coupling parts at the end of your religious experience?
