Jack,
One of the unwritten rules, that some lists have put into writing, is:
"No one will not use this forum or list to promote any commercial product or
personal agenda...."
On the sailing lists I belong to, someone would have written something
similar to what Rick wrote.
What is acceptable is to offer to share your efforts with other owners for a
modest fee -- cost of the DVD and postage. Offering to sell a product for
profit to more than one individual is not proper etiquette on most
unmoderated lists.
I know it's confusing. You can tell everyone your boat is for sale, or that
you have a used piece of electronics for sale. For example, you can even be
a sailmaker and respond to technical questions about sails with your name,
position, and phone in your signature. But you cannot say that you are
offering a special on main sails.
Some list managers will go as far as to ban repeat offenders. It's common in
these realms. I belong to Tayana lists and my opinion is they would have had
a similar reaction.
So...please stay with us. Just know that Rick wasn't the only one with this
reaction. Sounds like you know what you're doing with boats and we can
always use a guy like you around. Buy a Baba.
