[baba] current poll results

With only seven responses (out of 130+ users), this poll isn't exactly a
scientific representation! It sounds like we get kicked out on the 8th.

------------------------------
DESIRES. These are what I have gleaned from all the emails. Numbers do
not reflect any priority; they are merely so people can vote.

1. A forum to exchange information & ideas using a text-based email-type
distribution, along the lines of the old Baba-L.

      H=4 M=0 L=3

2. A forum which is optionally web-based.

      H=3 M=2 L=2

3. A forum which is free. Personally, I think this is a no-brainer, but
hey if you are willing to pay SailJazz, say so. Don't be intimidated by
all us "free-internet-information" nuts.

      H=6 M=1 L=0

4. A forum which runs, at least in theory, 24/7, 365.242199 days a year
(baring hurricanes, floods, tsunamis, ice storms, whatever).

      H=6 M=1 L=0

5. A forum which is DIY, run by one (or more) of us.

      H=1 M=5 L=1

6. A forum which is not DIY, run by some independent entity that takes
care of all operational issues (spam, viruses, ISP's, broken machines,
spilled coffee, you name it).

      H=2 M=3 L=2

7. A forum which does not make you feel "guilty" that another of us will
be doing unpaid work on all our behalf, which has the potential (witness
Baba-L) to be very frustrating and time-consuming at times.

      H=4 M=1 L= NA=2

8. The ability to exchange pictures, drawings, etc., ie, big files, as
an integral part of The Solution.

      H=4 M=2 L=1

9. Ditto, but it could be a separate, independent solution (like the
Tayana Group has, I think).

      H=2 M=2 L=2 NA=1

10. A moderated forum (like Baba-L was).

      H=0 M=2 L=5

11. An unmoderated/uncensored/self-regulating forum.

      H=5 M=1 L=1

12. A forum that is ad/popup-free, or at least can be configured by you
to be so.

      H=4 M=2 L-1

13. Other -- please state and make it known!

SOLUTIONS. Again, letters do not reflect any priority or indirect
coersion on my part.

A. Stay with SailJazz. Pay the $36.

      H=0 M=0 L=7 (actually 2 were "No Way!")

B. Go with sailboatowners.com, basically a pre-subscription SailJazz
look-alike.

      H=0 M=3 L=4

C. Go with Cindy's DIY solution.

      H=1 M=4 L=1 (one abstention)

D. Go with Yahoo Groups (web-based, text-based, or both). (The Valiant
list moved to Yahoo.)

      H=2 M=4 L=1

E. Go with Rick B's DIY solution.

      H=0 M=5 L=2

F. Go with MSN Groups (web-based, text-based, or both).

      H=2 M=1 L=4

G. Go with Bruce's DIY solution.

      H= M=5 L=1 NA=1

H. Go with any non-SailJazz solution regardless of whether or not
SailJazz buckles and drops the subscription idea.

      H=7 M=0 L=0

I. Go with any DIY solution. Leave the details up to Cindy, Bruce, Rick
B, or whowever.

      H=4 M=3 L=0

J. Go with Yahoo Groups, MSN Groups, or any similar "Group".

      H=3 M=1 L=2 NA=1

K. Stick with SailJazz if they drop the subscription aspect. (see note
below)

      H=1 M=0 L=6

L. Go ListLess.

      H=0 M=0 L=6 NA=1

M. Something else -- please state and make it known!
