It was my understanding that 1/4' HT is as strong as 5/16 regular chain.

!/4 proof coil 1250 lb working, 5000 lb breaking
5/16 proof coil 1900 lb working 7600 lb breaking

1/4 high test 2600 lb working 7750 breaking
5/16 high test 3900 working 11600 breaking

1/4 inch is about 25% less in weight and 1/4 inch HT is less expensive
than regular 5/16
