Rick, I took this off-list. I felt personally affronted by your blanket
dismissal of my suggestion of MSN. Despite the cavaet you give here (eating
crow), your earlier dismissal of MSN was such that it clearly sent the
message "no room for discussion, it is out of the question".

The point is you gave no reasons. Earlier on, I had voiced my disapproval
of Yahoo--relatively mild compared to your disapproval of MSN--and gave an
explanation. You gave none. Even here, in your response, you merely say
you don't personally agree with Yahoo groups or MSN. I have no idea what
exactly that means, although I can certainly make some guesses. But
nevertheless it still does not give any valid input for me (not you) to
evaluate whether or not MSN or Yahoo is a viable way to go.

Sorry, I'm a scientist; I need reasons...good logical reasons, not emotional
ones. Your complete lack of them set off all my alarms. I try my best to
resist all-too-human emotional responses. Email is a good forum to do that,
because you have time to think about what you write. Whether or not you
are a Microsoft Hater is irrelevant. The proof should be in the pudding.
The fact that my experience, as I previously stated, with MSN Groups,
through Puget Sound Cruising Club, is very positive and works and looks just
like SailJazz, seems to be irrelevant to you.

You state both Cindy & you "summarized simple solutions". The word "simple"
tells a lot. I've been programming computers for over 4 decades, much of
this also doing field work in very remote places. If I ever learned
anything it was to avoid the word "simple". One of the biggest traps there
is.

Yes indeed you are "completely in favor of DIY". That was obvious--and was
precisely the point of my posting. By that very statement I conclude that
means to the exclusion of (a) considering its disadvantages as well, and (b)
considering any other option fairly and squarely, on merits, not emotion.
Those very words said it all.

I don't even think we are at the point of voting on anything. Hence the
reason for lack of a vote.

Both Cindy and Myself indeed summarized simple solutions. So simple, in
fact, the 'summary' merely consisted of one or two sentences. In addition,
Ken actually listed the 3 solutions put forth so far.

In order to have a vote, someone has to corral this bunch. No one has
stepped up to the plate to do that or even offered to administer a vote.
We're an anarchy and I don't see anyone rushing to change that.

I think as a group we agree that something, sooner or later, will need to be
done. Personally, I don't agree with Yahoo groups or MSN. It's a matter of
principal but I've never let that get in the way of eating crow.

So, rather than point out that a vote hasn't been initiated, someone needs
to take the lead if a vote is going to be made.

In fact, I don't recall any voting when we jumped on SailJazz's site. So
what's the big deal?

For those of you shaking your head and wondering why we're making such a
stink about this, it sure beats apathy.
