[baba] Where do we go?

I agree about Yahoo...that's why I suggested MSN Groups a while back. I've
been on several Yahoo forums over the years and eventually I just stopped
going to them because of all the ads & popups.

I too agree that sailboatowners looks like the best way too go...except that
it looks all too creepily familiar vis-a-vis SailJazz. On the other hand
they seem to be addressing the financing side by selling things, ads,
classified's, etc, which I have nothing against as long as its not in my
face and the exchange of information & ideas is still free.

Cindy has good points though, especially the one about text format.
However, MSN Groups (& maybe Yahoo, groan) has the option for you to receive
postings as regular text email. In fact, that's all I ever do with Puget
Sound Cruising Club's forum, which is on MSN Groups. From my end it looks
just like SailJazz or the old Baba-L.

Thanks to all those offering to host a site, and I can appreciate the "DIY"
aspect, but, but, but...I can't help but recall the many periodic hassles
Rick E had. They give me a "oh-oh, here we go again, feeling". Once again,
for those of you thinking of doing this, give thought to AOL and all the
problems Rick E had with it...they were, after all, what killed Baba-L. As
I said earlier I would recommend banning AOL, period. You might retain all
your hair then.

I'm as much a computer nerd as some of the rest of us here, but given the
history of Baba-L, given what I see on MSN Groups, and given the "deja-vu"
feeling I get at sailboatowners, my vote is for MSN Groups. At least give
it a try first. Even if we ultimately decide to go with our own list server
once again, at least MSN Groups will work as an interim solution.
