I just saw the SailJazz "gotcha" listing, and then I saw yours. I
completely agree. One of the big underlying beauties and value of the
Internet is the free exchange of ideas and information. I can probably
afford the cute 10 cents a day, but I refuse to pay it on principle.

Does anyone have experience setting up one of the free forums like "MSN
Groups"? I'm a member of Puget Sound Cruising Club, which uses that
service, and it seems to work ok and seems to be pretty free of junk email
and ads (unlike Yahoo Groups).

So far, I have avoided paying any subscriptions for using Internet sites and
I have personally vowed to maintain this status. If we all start agreeing to
pay for each web site we frequent the cost of Internet use will be
extraordinary. Without getting too personal, every aspect of my sailing has
become very expensive and as much as I love the Baba email list I will not
agree to pay a fee. For some reason I get the feeling we were all lead down
a road into a trap. Like the "Puppy in the window" sales gambit we had a
taste of the "free" SailJazz forum and now the snare has been sprung and
it's time to pay. Well, for me, SailJazz is a nice site but not worth paying
a subscription to visit.

If anyone on the Baba forum wishes to add my address to their electronic
