Hello

My assumption is that there is nothing obstructing the quadrant itself.

Having spent a few hours last sunday in the back end of my boat repacking the rudder gland, I became intimately familiar with this.

A few things that you might wish to look at-

1. Is there anything externally that is obstructing the rudder?

2. A good candidate to investigate is the binnacle. There is a gear in there attached to the shaft of the wheel. A chain goes over that to which is attached the cables that you see coming out of the binnacle underneath going to the steerin quadrant. When the rudder is amidships, the centerpoint of the chain should be at the top of the gear. It is possible that it is not. If not, when turning one direction, you will run out of chain early, thus limiting the turning of the wheel. The solution to this is to remove the cable from the quadrant , center the rudder and the wheel then reattach the cables to the quadrant. Not really a difficult thing to do, at least in theory.

3. Is there anything in the rudder bearing or the stuffing box that is limiting the travel?

Of the above, it would think that number 2 would be the most likely.

Good luck
