Great pictures! I never thought to think "high up" on the rudder post for
connecting the drive. Alpha's long tiller arm (18") seems to make this
possible. Most of the hydraulic linear drives want to be connected to the
tiller at the 6" to 7" length in order to have 35 degrees hard over to hard
over. I believe Alpha works on the theory of only turning the tiller 10
degrees each side but doing this very fast so as not to need bigger
corrections. The de-linking, proprietary tiller makes this possible and
still offers full turning capability when steering by hand. Unfortunately,
combining the Alpha drive with other manufacturer's electronics is not yet
possible. If anyone knows how to do this please let Bill from "Amadon Light"
know as he is trying everything to make this happen with a Robertson AP-20.
Although the Alpha has a long history of reliability on cruising boats it is
a very basic and unique design not compatible with any GPS type of
interfacing.
