RE: [baba] MD-11 Alternator Replacement

Years ago, I discovered an excellent alternative for electrical power when
demands were not as heavy as typical in modern boats. If this is the case
for you today, it was foolproof and very inexpensive, plus provided power i=
n
excess of original equipment. I purchased a rebuilt automotive alternator
with built-in regulator in the 55 to 70-amp range. Actually, I got them as
rebuilts from auto supply stores with the exchange of an old alternator for
around $50 (probably more today). At these prices, I carried a spare. But
they were far more reliable than the $500 alternators of today. And I could
find one, if needed, everywhere. In fact, I believe I still might have a
couple in my storage shed. They won't do the job of the modern alternators
in sophisticated electrical systems, but if you are replacing original
equipment that nearly met the task, this very inexpensive alternative works=
.
