Why don't you guys get a little lathe and make some belaying pins?

My dad had a lathe and I got to use it a couple of times. I never made
anything useful with it, but I did make the most impressive pile of
shavings you ever saw! (Dad called it mechanized whittling.) I think
that with a little practice and more patience than I had as a kid, you
could make really nice pins and it would probably be a lot of fun.

Just a thought.
